Is that safe to say here? Because I really needed to get that off my chest. The hype and adoration for the whole Star Wars saga have been just too much. I saw first movie in the theater when I was a kid and I've seen the others since, with the exception of the last one where they end up building Darth Vader. I just didn't care anymore.

Star Trek was always the better universe anyway! Actual thought went into that series and most of its spin offs. TNG is still one of my top favorite shows / movies.
Farscape is also way up there. If only it had lasted a little longer!

Let me preface by saying I am a pretty big Star Wars fan.
You can make the same argument for car guys. We overanalyze Fast and Furious films (among other car flicks). Frothing at the mouth over every detail, inaccuracy, point of interest pushes people away. It's not a situational occurrence. To those who have a casual interest in the movie, book, etc. the reaction is intimidating.

Here is the thing with Star Wars.
BEST SPACE BATTLES EVER. Battle. Singular. I think that most universes could kick Star War's ass if they tried. I thought Star Trek Into Darkness would have a great one, but it wasn't really that great. Stargate never really did either. Nothing on the order of "Here is one fleet, here is a another. Have fun".
Hell, science fiction has amazing space battles in text, rarely do they get translated into film. I always thought that Halo for example, had some awesomesauce sequences in the books but they never really got that across in the games. But we did get one ship literally ramming another ship, so theres that.
But Star Wars also had this, which is still my most favourite opening scene ever. Not even Quantum of Solace beats this.
What Im saying is that we need more gigantic space battles. Someone, make it so?

I am a huge Star Wars fan. But, I can see how those who publicly go on about it can ruin it. My memories as a kid will not be tarnished by them.

No no no. There is no comparison.
Cars are an everyday part of our lives. Star Wars is a series of fictional movies. I'm a car guy and I've heard more about Star Wars on a daily basis than I ever hear about cars. I can go a day or two without seeing a story about cars in mainstream media or entertainment. Star Wars on the other hand seems to have become the most important cultural thing in our society.

It isn't just one or two people going on about it continually. I could deal with that. The problem for me is that Star Wars is everywhere to the point of being ubiquitous.

And almost on que, there is a Star Wars story on the front page. How imaginative.

With the hype surrounding the seventh movie I don't think the prevalence will be dying soon.
I was referring to Star Wars geeks as a culture, but I suppose I misinterpreted your post, sorry about that.

Yeah, because I like cars and I've never seen a second of any "The Fast & The Furious" movie.
